Are you realigning your focus? Today’s post begins with this all important question for every believer in and follower of Yeshua (Jesus). It is a question that we are wise to ask ourselves often as it is so easy for us to drift off course in our walk with Messiah. Have you ever really thought deeply upon how much the Father has done to make us aware of His presence and of His times and calendar? In this post I will explore the magnificent gift the Father has given us in this very special month.
Currently we are in the month of Elul on the Hebrew calendar. This is the final month of the year and is a month we are called to introspection and repentance. Why is this the last month of the year so special and designated as a month of repentance? It is the 30 days leading up to Rosh HaShannah or Yom Teruah also known as the Feast of Trumpets.
G-d has ensured that we are not caught unaware of his plans. For millennia he has laid out his blueprint for all interested parties to read and know. Leviticus 23 teaches about the moedim or “appointed times” of the Father. These are NOT the “Jewish feasts” but they are the Feast of ADONAI. They are His Feast days. They are prophetic and highly important to all of us . Yeshua was a Jew and the Messiah as over 300 prophesies attest. The spring Feasts point to his first coming and the fall to his second.
Yeshua was executed on Passover, buried on the Feast of unleavened bread, rose from the dead on the Feast of First Fruits and the Ruach HA Kodesh (Holy Spirit) was sent on Shavuot (Pentecost.)
Just as He perfectly fulfilled the spring Feasts He will indeed fulfill the Fall Feasts! The first is Rosh HaShannah or Feast of Trumpets when the Shofar will sound and the dead in Messiah will rise first and those who remain will be caught up in the twinkling of an eye. This is what the church commonly refers to as the rapture.
Our G-d is not just intentionally trying to sneak up on us to catch us unaware. Quite the opposite in fact. By giving us this pattern we know the season. No man knows the day or the hour or even the year but we do know the season. There are many reasons why even though we know the “day” on the calendar that we do not know at the same time. This has to do with the fact that G-d’s calendar is lunar and the first sliver of the new moon must be seen and confirmed in Jerusalem. Unless you are in Jerusalem and it is a clear night you will not have a clue. Plus we do not exactly know how accurate our current calendar is, even the Hebrew calendar. We could be off by weeks either way.
The gift is not only that we were told the season when we are to watch and be ready and be filled with oil and trim our wicks but we have the added bonus if you will of having a month’s long head’s up in the month of Elul.
Whether Messiah calls us home this year or not, won’t you participate in this beautiful season of repentance and realign yourself with Him? Get ready, share the Gospel with someone and find a place where you can be part of a community that observes His Holy Feast Days.
